Carpooling and vanpooling are a great way to share your commute, reduce driving costs, and earn rewards for riding together.
Unlike standard trips, carpools and vanpools are recorded together by both the driver and riders using the mobile app.
☝️ If you are only using the desktop platform, you should log your trip manually. Trip recording is only available in the mobile app.
Before You Start
Before recording a carpool or vanpool trip, make sure:
- You are logged into the mobile app
- Location access is enabled and set to Allow While Using App
- Both the driver and rider have the app installed
☝️The app uses location activity from both participants to verify that you traveled together. If location access is disabled, the trip may fail verification.
Example: Recording a Carpool Trip
|
Let’s walk through a real example. You open the app and go to the Pools section in the navigation bar. There, you find a carpool offer from Flo that matches your route to work. You notice Flo lives nearby and works along your route, so sharing the commute makes sense. You open the carpool offer and tap the Message button to coordinate a pickup location and time together. Once everything is arranged, you are ready to start your trip.

Step 1: Start the Trip as the Driver
|
When you leave home to pick up Flo:
|
Step 2: Add Your Rider
After you arrive and Flo gets into the car:
- Tap the Add Riders button in the app
- A QR code will appear on your screen
At the same time, Flo needs to:
- Open the app
- Tap the Record icon
- Select Carpool
- Tap Join Carpool
- Tap Scan Code
- Scan the QR code from your phone
After scanning the code, Flo has about 2 minutes to tap Join and confirm the ride.
Once accepted successfully, Flo will appear in your rider list and the carpool is officially connected.
While driving together, the app records trip details automatically in the background.
☝️ Location access must remain set to Allow While Using App for both the driver and rider.
Step 3: Drop Off the Rider
Let’s say Flo works in a different building and gets dropped off before you arrive at your final destination.
When Flo gets out of the car:
- Flo opens the app
- Taps Stop
- Taps Save
Flo’s portion of the carpool trip is now complete.
You can continue driving while your own trip recording stays active.
Step 4: Finish the Driver Trip
When you arrive at your workplace parking lot:
- Open the app
- Tap Stop
- Tap Save
Your carpool trip is now complete and automatically added to your account.
That’s It! The first carpool trip can feel like a lot of steps, but after doing it once or twice, it quickly becomes part of your normal commute routine.
