You can use the app to record your trips directly instead of logging them manually afterward. Recording a trip gives you more detailed trip information and makes it easier to track your commute activity.
Based on your organization's setup, you can choose from several travel modes, including:
- Carpool
- Vanpool
- Driving Alone
- Bicycle
- Walking
Depending on the mode you choose, the recording process may look slightly different.
Before you begin, make sure:
- You are logged into your app
- Location access must be set to 'While in Use' for both the driver and rider
☝️ Important: Location access is required so the app can record and verify your trip activity correctly.
Record a Standard Trip
For modes like Driving Alone, Bicycle, and Walking, follow these steps to log your trip:
- Tap the Record button in the main navigation
- Select your travel mode
- Tap Start to begin recording
The app will record your route and trip activity (time, distance) while you travel.
When you reach your destination:
- Tap Stop
- Choose one of the following:
- Save to save the trip to your account
- Discard to permanently delete the recording
Recorded trips are automatically added to your account, so you do not need to log them manually afterward. But if you accidentally clicked “Discard,” you can manually log your commute as a trip.
Record a Carpool or Vanpool Trip
Carpool and vanpool trips require a few additional steps because both the driver and riders participate in the same trip recording.
To make sure trips are recorded correctly, both the driver and all riders must use the app on their own phones during the trip.
☝️ Important:
- Location access must be set to 'While in Use' for both the driver and rider
- Unless configured otherwise by your organization, carpool and vanpool trips must be at least 1 mile long to qualify
The next steps depend on whether you are the driver or a rider.
Record a Trip as a Driver
If you are driving the carpool or vanpool:
- Tap the Record button in the main navigation
- Select Carpool or Vanpool
- Tap Start as Driver
- Begin recording your trip
- When you arrive to pick up a rider, tap Add Riders
- Have the rider scan the QR code displayed on your screen
- Repeat the same process for any additional riders you pick up
Once riders join successfully, their names will appear in your rider list.
Drop Off Riders
If you drop off a rider before the trip ends:
- Tap the Drop Rider button next to their name
This removes the rider from the active trip while allowing you to continue recording with any remaining riders.
Finish the Trip as a Driver
When you reach your destination:
- Tap Stop
- Choose one of the following:
- Save to store the trip
- Discard to permanently delete the recording
- Resume to continue your trip recording
☝️ Important:
- Unless configured otherwise by your organization, carpool and vanpool trips must be at least 1 mile long to qualify
- Discarded trips cannot be recovered
Join a Trip as a Rider
If you are joining a carpool or vanpool as a rider:
- Tap the Record button in the app
- Select Carpool
- Tap Join Carpool
When your driver arrives:
- Tap Scan Code
- Scan the QR code displayed on the driver’s phone
- Tap Join within 2 minutes to join the trip
After joining successfully, your trip recording will begin automatically. Make sure location access stays enabled during the ride so the app can verify both your location and the driver’s location.
Leave the Trip as a Rider
When you reach your stop:
- Tap Stop
- Tap Save to save your trip
Recorded trips are added automatically. You do not need to log them manually afterward.
☝️ Important: If the driver ends the trip before you do, your trip will automatically end as well. However, you must reopen the app afterward so your final GPS data can finish syncing correctly. If you do not reopen the app, the carpool trip verification will fail.
