Our applications are available on mobile apps, web browsers, and desktop versions, giving your users flexibility in how they access the platform.
This article is designed for managers who need to:
- Understand how their users should sign in
- Decide which registration method fits their organization best
RideAmigos offers several different registration options to meet the needs of different organizations and user groups. This guide explains each method in detail and helps you choose the right one for your organization.
1. Open Registration
What It Is
Open Registration allows anyone to create an account on your platform using:
- An email address
- Their name
- Required profile information (such as home and work address)
No pre-approval or domain restrictions are required. Users can register immediately and start using the platform.
When It Is Useful
Open Registration works best for:
- Regional or public programs where you want to encourage broad participation
- Community-based initiatives that prioritize accessibility
- Programs focused on maximum adoption without barriers to entry
Even with Open Registration, you maintain control over how much information users must provide during sign-up.
☝️Important Note: If a user does not have an email address, you can use plus addressing to create accounts on their behalf.
2.Domain-Limited Registration
What It Is
Domain-Limited Registration restricts access to users who have an email address from a specific domain.
For example, if your organization is RideAmigos, only users with an @rideamigos.com email address can register. There are no restrictions on the number of domains.
How It Works
The registration process includes verification:
- User enters their email address and completes the registration form
- RideAmigos sends a verification email to that address
- User clicks the verification link in the email
- Access is granted only after confirming email ownership
This ensures that only people with legitimate access to your organization's email system can join the platform.
Benefits
Domain-Limited Registration provides:
- Better access control than Open Registration
- Automatic membership verification through email domain
You don't need to manually approve each user, but you can be confident that all users belong to your organization.
Best For: Corporate commute programs, university transportation networks, hospital employee programs, and organizations that want restricted access without complex authentication systems.
3. Single Sign-On (SSO)
What It Is
Single Sign-On (SSO) allows users to log in using your organization's existing login system. Users authenticate once through your identity provider and gain access to RideAmigos without creating a separate password.
Supported Technologies
RideAmigos supports:
- SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language)
- Google OAuth
Other Single Sign-on options are possible using an intermediary like OneLogin to translate between other services and SAML.
Configuration Options
SSO can be configured in two ways:
- SSO as the only login method – All users must authenticate through your identity provider
- SSO combined with built-in registration – Users can choose between SSO or standard RideAmigos login
This flexibility allows you to transition gradually or accommodate users who may not have SSO credentials.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):
- RideAmigos does not natively support Two-Factor Authentication
- If your organization requires 2FA for security compliance, you must use SSO
- Your identity provider (such as Okta, Azure AD, or Google Workspace) can enforce 2FA before granting access to RideAmigos
Best For: Organisations with existing identity management systems and programs where users already use SSO for other applications.
