Default Settings
The default Strava integration settings allow users to synchronize activities from Strava that RideAmigos recognizes as a commute. We do this by checking the end-points of the activity. By default, if one end-point is within 500 meters of a user's work address it will be classified as a commute.
The default settings also map the modes available for Strava activities to modes available in RideAmigos:
Strava Activity | Synchronized As |
Ride | Bike |
E-Bike Ride | Bike |
Run | Walk |
Hike | Walk |
Walk | Walk |
Inline Skate | Walk |
Optional Configuration
There are many parts of the Strava integration's configuration that administrators can request us to configure. For example, any of the Activity Mappings in the table above can be changed to represent a different mode. If your site has custom modes, you can even use those!
Another option is to change the Commute Detection Algorithm. A somewhat popular, although more restrictive change, is to only identify activities as commutes if both endpoints are near the home and work addresses. This makes it impossible to record Strava commutes that don't start or end at home, but it makes certain that you only sync trips made around someone's workplace if it is definitely a commute. The downside of this is that you may prevent multi-stop/multi-modal commutes from syncing.
Another option is to Allow All Trips to sync from Strava. This synchronizes all of a user's activities, but can still categorize commutes separately if your site has enabled trip types. The default Non-Commute Trip Type is "Other". If your site utilizes trip types for programs and reporting, you can have us change the typing to based on the options configured in your system.
