What are Capacity Overrides?
Capacity Overrides allow admins to temporarily adjust the number of available parking spaces for a specific product on selected dates.
This is useful whenever your normal parking setup doesn’t match reality for a short period of time.
Common examples:
- A section of the parking lot is closed due to maintenance
- A company event reduces available parking spaces for a day
- You want to release unused spaces later in the day for everyone to use
Instead of changing your product setup permanently, Capacity Overrides let you make quick, temporary adjustments and then automatically return to normal.
Watch the video below for a full walkthrough of how Capacity Overrides work.
Before You Start
To manage overrides effectively, you’ll need at least one active Product (such as "After 1pm parking") already set up in your dashboard.
If you’re new to the platform, we recommend a quick look at our Parking Intro and Parking Product articles. It’s also helpful to understand how Products and Facilities differ. Our Parking Facilities article is a great resource for a quick refresher.
Where to Find Capacity Overrides
- Log in to your Management Dashboard
- Go to Parking in the left sidebar
- Click on Capacity Overrides
Overview Tab
The Overview tab is where you view and adjust capacity.
Key things to understand:
1. Date selection (very important)
At the top, you select the date you want to view or edit.
☝️Make sure you are working on the correct day before making changes.
2. Facilities, Products and Rulesets
- First, you see your Facilities
- Expand them using the arrow
- Then expand again to see the Products
- Expand again using the arrow
- Then you can see the Default Capacity and Rulesets
☝️The number displayed next to the Product represents the Total Capacity. This is calculated by adding the Default Capacity to the Ruleset Capacity. Please be careful not to confuse these values.
Capacity Columns Explained
-
Reserved Capacity
Total number of parking spaces available for that product -
Released
The total number of spots the system has made available to users so far -
Bookings
Spaces that have already been reserved by users -
Available
Remaining spaces that can still be booked
How to Change Capacity
You have two options:
Option 1: Adjust Total Capacity
- Change the Capacity number
- This overrides the default setup (including rulesets)
⚠️ When you change total capacity, all rulesets are automatically disabled → This means the spaces become available to all users, not just specific groups.
Option 2: Adjust Capacity Individually
- Use the individual rows to change the capacity for a specific product or ruleset. This allows you to fine-tune the supply for each specific category.
This is useful if you want to:
- Keep restrictions (e.g. only certain user groups)
- Adjust only part of the capacity
Example Scenarios
Example 1: Temporary Parking Reduction
You have a physical restriction. For example, a painting crew is blocking off 10 spots in your 50-spot "South Lot" for the day of the 15th of May.
→ Select the day of the 15th of May
→ Reduce the default capacity for that day
→ Users will only see the reduced number of spaces
→ Your rulesets remain active
Example 2: Releasing Reserved Spaces
Let's say you have a ruleset that reserves 20 spots exclusively for HR employees — but on a given day, only 5 of them actually book a spot. The other 15 are sitting empty and blocked for everyone else.
To release those 15 unused spots, simply reduce the ruleset capacity from 20 to 5. The remaining 15 spots are now open for anyone to book.
⚠️ You cannot reduce capacity below existing bookings (in this case, minimum is 5). Keep in mind that if you change the total capacity the rulesets get deactivated.
☝️Generally keep in mind:
- Overrides can be set for future dates
- Changes are temporary and only apply to selected dates
Schedule Tab
The Schedule tab shows all planned future capacity overrides.
Use this to:
- Review upcoming changes
- Ensure everything is set correctly in advance
History Tab
The History tab shows all past capacity overrides.
This helps you:
- Track previous changes
- Understand how capacity was managed over time
