How to set up a 30 Days of Biking Challenge on the RideAmigos Platform

RideAmigos and 30 Days of Biking joint logo

The 30 Days of Biking Challenge started in 2010 as a challenge to encourage people to enjoy the beautiful weather outside and ride their bike more! The goal is to make a bike trip of any distance for 30 straight days during the month of April. Participants are welcome (and highly encouraged) to share their experiences on Twitter using the hashtag #30daysofbiking. A resource you’ll likely find incredibly helpful as it pertains to increasing engagement is the Captain’s Kit found here.

Setting up the challenge

Setting up the challenge is easy. Here’s how:

  1. Log in as a Network Manager or System Administrator
  2. Go to ‘Tools’ and choose the ‘Challenges’ option
  3. Click the ‘Create a New Challenge’ button
  4. Enter all the necessary information for the challenge
      • Start date should be 04/01/Year and end date would be 4/30/Year
      • Eligible modes should only be ‘bike’
      • Trips are a logical criteria to use in order to track the challenge
  5. Click the ‘Create Challenge’ button and you’re done!
  6. The stats and information for the challenge can be accessed through the ‘View Challenge’ button

Setting up an incentive to encourage participation

Adding an incentive is an excellent way to further encourage users to participate in the challenge. Here’s how to set one up:

  1. Go to ‘Tools’ and choose the ‘Incentives’ option
  2. Click the ‘Add Incentive’ button
  3. Enter all the necessary information for the incentive
        • Use the same criteria as in the challenge (in this case, trips is recommended)
        • ‘Bike’ should be the only mode eligible
        • Start date should be 04/01/Year and end date would be 4/30/Year
        • Having the triplog entry cutoff date about a week after the challenge is good practice as it gives time for backlogged trips to be entered into the system
  4. Click the ‘Save Incentive’ button and you’re done!
  5. On the main Incentives page, stats and information on the Incentive can be found by clicking the ‘Report’ button.
