Before You Start: Decide How to Segment Your Users
The best practices of segmentation are discussed in detail at Networks – what? why? how? If you aren’t sure how you want to segment your users, head over there for some great ideas and suggestions.
Creating a Network
Site Administrators: Manage > Admin Dashboard > Networks
Click the ‘Create New Network’ button, fill in all of the required fields, and hit ‘Create Network’ at the top right.
Creating a Subnetwork
Site Administrators can use the same process as above, specifying the parent network during network creation, or can use the same process as Network Managers by clicking the blue edit button next to a network in the network dashboard, then navigating to that network’s Subnetworks tab.
Network Managers: Manage > My Networks – (Choose Network) > Subnetworks
Click the ‘Create a New Subnetwork’ button to get started, or choose an existing network to reclassify as a subnetwork of this network.
Network Managers may only create subnetworks for networks for which they have management privileges.
Creating Multi-Tiered Subnetworks
RideAmigos supports an unlimited number of tiers for networks, subnetworks, sub-subnetworks, and so on. Most platforms are configured out-of-the-box for 2 or 3 total tiers of networks, to minimize the potential for confusion when determining network parentage.
If the Subnetworks tab no longer appears within the network view screen, you have reached the extent of your platform’s network tiers. To have additional tiers enabled on your system, network managers should contact a site administrator. If you are a site administrator and you approve of this configuration change, submit a ticket to our helpdesk to turn on additional tiers.
Public vs. Private
Public networks can be searched for and joined by anyone.
If you want users to be able to self-select your new network during registration (such as employer or departmental networks) or from their user profile, you should choose the public option.
Private networks are invite-only. Users can join via a manager-provided join link or can be added manually by a system administrator.
If you are strongly targeting your users with high-value incentives and are willing to give additional effort toward network management, using private networks to make sure that relevant users are in the correct networks for the incentives they qualify for can be a powerful tool. You’ll want to review the list of users periodically and update.
